Volkswagen is recalling more than 60,000 electric vehicles in the United States due to a software issue that affects the gear position display. The recall, announced by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Saturday (March 1), involves certain 2021-2023 Volkswagen ID.4 and 2022-2023 Audi Q4 e-tron models. The defect may lead to vehicles rolling away if the parking brake is not engaged, increasing the risk of accidents.
The issue was first identified in August after five cases were reported outside the United States. The problem is linked to a software glitch that fails to display some gear positions correctly.
The NHTSA has emphasized the importance of promptly addressing these safety concerns. Volkswagen is taking steps to notify owners and rectify the issue. Affected vehicle owners are advised to contact their dealers for further instructions.
This recall follows another recent recall by Volkswagen, which affected around 30,000 vehicles due to rearview camera display issues.
